Naming the Gifts…

Just arrived after driving 1,200 miles from Arkansas

“In naming that which is right before me,

that which I’d otherwise miss,

the invisible becomes visible.”

 –Ann Voskamp, 1000 Gifts

Often in the quiet moments of reflection, I discover that I have grown weary in my spirit, and have almost  lost my hope without realizing it.

At these times, I see that the happenings of life

have hardened and hurt my heart,

It is then that I realize that I have not spent enough time

replenishing myself in what Jesus called the living waters,

not enough time in the Word, not enough time seeking the face of my Lord…

I often wander out to the Garden after my morning Devotions in the Word, long before anyone else is awake in our home.  Today was a day such as this, and I encountered a dried up herb, planted last week, and forgotten.  I quickly ran to the kitchen and brought out a little water for my herb.  Within moments, the plant revived.

I was once again reminded of the care and love of my Father, who sees all and knows about this time of challenge I am currently facing.  If he made an Herb with the ability to revive so easily, why couldn’t I regenerate some energy and strength to face my current challenge?  I was filled with a feeling of His Goodness, and whispered a prayer of thanks for the Lesson.

His gifts are all around us.  “I am the Vine, and you are the Branches,”  the verse from John 15 flooded my mind.  And so, I must think of facing my whole life as a Gardener, comforting my own heart with these words, and allowing God to do the things He is willing to do to change and help me.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said,

out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
