“And that from a child

THOU HAST KNOWN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES,

which are able to make thee wise unto salvation

through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable for doctrine,

for reproof,

for correction,

for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect,

thoroughly furnished unto all good works”.

(2 Timothy 3:15-17)

One of the things we desperately wanted to change when we decided to become a Home School Family was to get more of the Word INTO our family.  We each set a goal to memorize 100 scriptures from January 1st of 2015 to January 2016.

It was in no way easy.   Getting and keeping this many verses into one’s head and heart requires diligence, study, and commitment!  I am happy to report that we are 2 verses away from meeting our Goal!  We will easily memorize those two scriptures in the 3 remaining days of 2015.

I know that all of these verses will not remain firm in our memories in perfect form, but there is and unbelievable  change in my own head and heart this year from this one challenging discipline.

I think of scriptures in the most unusual situations now.

The right one seems to Pop into my thoughts when I need it!  I am able to give an appropriate scripture of hope, comfort, or healing at just the ‘right’ time to a loved one, or someone in need.  I am able to debate with have firm scriptural backup from my mind, even if there is no Bible available (I try not to debate, but when someone says they no longer Sin, I must speak up).

I am not proud to report this, but I have also been ‘rebuked, corrected, and, yes, even instructed’ by my own child, with scriptural backup so that I am completely unable to do anything honorable~~ except to confess, repent, and ask for forgiveness from said child. 

This is also a benefit not only for me, but for my son (to have the ability to gently use scripture to point out errors and sin).  This year, we talked many times  about how to use appropriate scriptures in the proper way to help guide others, if they are open to this.  How humbling, and how exciting to know that one’s children are able to do so at a young age!

I recommend scripture memory work to anyone and everyone.
