The Natural Curiosity of a Child…

Homeschooling is a part of our lives, and the learning is continual.  This year we will add an interesting feature:  Survival.  This is what “the student” requested.  We daily view You Tube Videos on Survival Techniques.  Today’s reading was from the book, “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell

I did not predict such a topic of study, but it truly has captured my interest.  No doubt this could be useful to a young boy, not to mention his mother!  One never knows what the future may bring…

Our computer is our guide, teaching us a variety of things, from the weather to correct spellings and grammar, to science.   Life Long Learning… it works… and…

You couldn’t stop this kid from learning if you tried…

Here he is, fresh out of bed in the morning, comparing rocks and “minerals” to some he
found on the Susquehanna, and had researched on the computer.Consequently,
I was able to wash 2 loads of laundry, finish washing the
dishes, and mop the kitchen floor.
All the while
the science researcher was hard at
work on the computer!  No prompting.I wouldn’t have believed it a few years ago,but learning in this setting is natural, especially when the desire to learn is strong.

  1. Yes, I remember this feeling when my children were elementary age. They were like sponges, always learning in whatever environment they were in… You seem to be able to make learning fun!
