“Another fresh new summer is here…
another season to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear;
to love and laugh and give!”
-William Arthur Ward, 1830

Another Fresh Summer to Enjoy with Family
A new season is upon us, fresh with sunshine, flowers, and blue skies. In our river home, we celebrate every characteristic of summer, and its unique beauty.
This season, our family has decided to think more about the meaning of true joy. We will share unique scenes of living and home-keeping in our small village beside the Little Red River in Arkansas.

The small village of Nimmo, Arkansas is where we reside. Nestled in the crook of the Little Red River, this ancient landmark was once a native Indian village by the water.
Presently, only 3 families live among the small cabins that dot the riverside. The atmosphere is quiet and serene.
A faint sound of the river rushing by pushes into the foreground, while the birds warble and the squirrels jump from tree to tree.
Nature, and an Escape from the Hustle
Many of our local friends are weekend people who own cabins here, coming to escape their busy lives to settle in by the cool, gently flowing water.
Nimmo is the second most visited fishing village in Arkansas. Summertime is when this place comes alive with boating, fishing, swimming, but only on the weekends.
At the turn of the twentieth century, though, this village was occupied by families with children who lived their summer days here “on holiday.” Outdoor activities were a daily occurrence at that time. Relaxation was on the schedule just as much then as it is now.

Summer is especially picturesque here, as the breezes gently blow the cool air over the river onto our cottage porch. However, my husband and I enjoy the early mornings the most.
We can see the sunrise from our kitchen window, and sip coffee as the day approaches.
We long for the day when we retire and stay on to linger long after the sun has appeared in the sky.
An Intimate and Cozy Summer Home
Friends and visitors have called this space intimate and cozy, while for now, we call it our personal escape from the day to day.
Small pleasures are hidden here, such as the redbird that visits our porch, or the rabbits that hop in the yard. A beautiful escape often calls for fine dining, as well.
Our dinner menus include smoked, roasted duck, marinated venison steaks, and butter broiled trout. I love that we can hold a candle to fine restaurants, using fresh ingredients like rosemary and thyme from my own herb garden just steps away from the back door.

Legend has it the Theodore Roosevelt once visited this Village, enjoying the healing water of the White River nearby.
We draw water from the White River even today, and filter it in our Berkey Filtration System for a uniquely rich water with local minerals inside. Taking a short boat ride, the breathtaking views of the River are unforgettable.

Crisp Evening Air at the River in Summer
One of our favorite activities in summertime is to take a slow boat ride down the Little Red River just before dusk.
The beauty and gifts of nature abound as the cool air blows over our faces. Nimmo truly delivers its promise of comfort and loveliness.
We soak in all the fine things about summer these days. If you would like to visit Nimmo, our friendly little village, comment “NIMMO” below in the comments and I will reach out to you with the link to a BnB cabin that is just down the road from our cottage. We would love to have you come by and visit!
