Creating Christmas Magic All Year Long at Blue Willow Cottage

At Blue Willow Cottage, Christmas isn’t just a season—it’s a calling.

I lie awake dreaming of scenes I can set in motion for my loved ones—little moments that sparkle and linger in memory. Creating a wonderful Christmas has become my heartfelt goal… perhaps even my sweet obsession.

Blitzen Day

To make it all happen, I dedicate one day each month—always the 25th—as my “BLITZEN Day.” It’s marked right there in bold letters on my calendar, and it’s sacred.

On these special days, I open my thick, red Christmas Notebook and plan everything: recipes, future parties, this year’s Christmas Card, joyful ideas, and this year’s December schedule.

This notebook sits on the shelf just above my desk in my home office, always ready to keep the season’s spirit alive throughout the year.

I could never do as much as I do if I did not have Blitzen Day each month.  It makes December a breeze.

By December, when the flurry of activity begins, all that quiet planning bears fruit. There are so many ways to shine God’s love during the holidays—with laughter, service, and even cookies—and I want every day to reflect that light.  And planning ahead is the key for me.

We call them “God Days”

One of the most cherished holiday memories at Blue Willow Cottage took place 12 years ago when two sweet girls—Hannah and Rachel—joined me in the kitchen while their mother worked during the school break. We spent the day baking, laughing, and donning aprons and scarves to match the festively decorated corners of our home.

These moments? We call them “God Days”—where joy feels extra bright, and grace dances in the details.

The kitchen rang with giggles as the girls measured, mixed, and stirred with delight. Hannah, a budding baker even at her young age, led the way while I happily captured it all with my camera.

My philosophy in the kitchen? Let children do all they’re capable of and eager for.

That day was a beautiful example of how small acts of love—like baking together—can create peace and connection.

“Every act of love is a work of peace, no matter how small.”
—Mother Teresa

Joy and Magic Moments

Thank you for stepping into my kitchen during one of my very favorite Christmas memories.

May your home be filled with the kind of joy that lasts, and may you find magical moments in the making this season and every season after.

If this story stirred your heart, why not start your own “God Days” tradition?

Begin with a simple recipe, an open kitchen, and a willing spirit… then watch how love rises. I’d love to hear about the moments you’re creating in your home.

Until we bake again—blessings from Blue Willow Cottage.
